2018 Shea campaign report
For more than 10 years, OLVEA has been developing a Shea supply chain in Burkina Faso; it has recently been fair-trade certified according to Ecocert‘s Fair for Life standard.
Every year, in order to produce its butter, OLVEA Burkina Faso buys Shea kernels directly from farmers’ organizations and women producers. In 2018, for its fair-trade supply chain, OLVEA Burkina Faso worked with 5 Fair For Life-certified farmers’ organizations. This represents a total of 22,637 women producers involved in the production of fair-trade Shea kernels, and 100% of them were trained to the agricultural good practices at the beginning of the campaign for the treatment of the kernels (boiling, drying, storage, etc.).
These kernels were then crushed in our green plant in Bobo Dioulasso to obtain fair-trade crude Shea butter, which is refined in our eco-refinery in France.
